Instructions
- Select conversion option "English to Bangla" or "Bangla to English".
Then intput appropriate Bangla or Gregorian date depending on the option
you selected. Now click on "Convert" button to see the converted date.
- This Date Converter follows the Bangla Calendar system defined by
"Bangla Academy" and followed by the Govt. of Bangladesh.
- Because of this nature, the corresponding Bangla date displayed by this software
will be few days deviated from the date of West Bengal calendar.
I developed the intial Bangla Date Converter back in 2000
(with the help of my brothers). This initial desktop application
was named "PCC Date Converter". It got awarded first prize in the
Science & Technology Fair, Gazipur in 2000, and also participated
in the national level competition of the same year. The software is
still available online for
Free Download. However, I thought to make it easy for online
users do the date conversion directly on the web, without the
hassel of downloading and installing a software first. And here comes
the Online Bangla Date Converter.

Notes on Using this Script
- It will convert the local time of client browser's PC. Therefore users will see the Bangla date for their local time regardless of where in the World they are browsing from.
- As a new Bangla day starts with the sunrise, whereas Gregorian days start from midnight 12:00am, this code will consider a new Bangla date starts at morning 6:00am.
- It uses the official Bangla calendar of Bangladesh, which may be different by few days from the Bangla dates observed in West Bengal.
- এটি ক্লায়েন্ট ব্রাউজারের লোকাল তারিখকে বাংলা তারিখে কনভার্ট করে দেখাবে। ফলে ইউজার বিশ্বের যেখান থেকেই আপনার ওয়েবসাইট ব্রাউজ করুক না কেন, সবসময় তার লোকাল সময় অনুযায়ী বাংলা তারিখ দেখবে।
- বাংলা ক্যালেন্ডারের হিসাবে যেহেতু সূর্যদয়ের সাথে সাথে নতুন দিনের শুরু হয়, যেখানে খৃস্টাব্দ হিসাবে মাঝরাত ১২-টার পর থেকে নতুন দিনের শুরু, এই কোডটি ভোর ৬-টার পর থেকে নতুন দিনের হিসাব করবে।
- এটি বাংলাদেশের প্রচলিত হিসাবে বাংলা তারিখ দেখাবে, যা পশ্চিম বঙ্গের তারিখ হতে কয়েকদিন বেশকম হতে পারে।

One thing I had noticed is that many respondent from India have written that the dates do not match. The dates do not match because in Bangladesh the Bangla calender have been standardized by a committee headed by Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah.
In Bangladesh
The first five months from Boishak to Bhadro consists of 31 days and Ashwin to Chaitra consists of 30 days. The same standardization in Bangla calender was not done in India. Hence in Bangla calender Ashar month have 32 days. Therefore the date do not match in two sides of Bangla.

it does work for old Bangla dates!
I know one date clearly, that is ১2 অগ্রহায়ণ ১৩৮৪. The true day is Monday but this calender shows the day is saturday.

If i convert date from English to Bengali its not giving actual result. For example if i convert English(19-November-2009) to Bengali then Bengali date, its display Bengali(5 Agrahayan 1416). But correct is (3 Agrahan 1416). Then how can we trust. Kindly get me the solution for the same.

bengali to english conversion is not correct because 18 th vadra 1375 tuesday you are converted to 2nd september 1968 monday we require actual as per india.

it does not match with indian calender.is there any differance between indian & bangladesh's calander?i try to get the exect day of some day but it give me a wrong answar..why?

Indian Bangla Calendar and Bangladeshi Bangla Calednar are not the same. Therefore there are few days differences observed for the same day in these two calendars. To get the exact date, you need to know the weekday name of the particular date. Once you convert the date using this application, find the closest weekday to the resulted date that matches with your weekday. That will be the exact date.

In the CONVERTER TABLE , I find that 8th AGHRAYANA, 1344 is showing 22nd November, 1937, MONDAY, BUT I was given to understand oversure that that day was WEDNESDAY. Why this difference ?

If you are sure that the day was Wednesday, then the exact date for 8th Agrahayan 1344 will be 24th November 1937.
West Bengal's Bangla calendar still follows the traditional Bangla calendar system, whereas the Bangla calendar followed in Bangladesh has been changed slightly from the traditional one.
As mentioned in the Instructions section above, this software follows the Bangla calendar system followed by the Govt. of Bangladesh. Therefore the converted date will be a few days different from the actual date for West Bengal calendar, and even for Bangla dates observed in Bangladesh prior 1987.

This date convert is not working properly. eg, if you put 25th Sep 2009 and convert to bengali, it returns 10th Asswin, but actually it would be 8th Asswin.

Please refer to the Instructions section, where it clearly mentions that the date converter follows the Bangla calendar adopted by the Govt. of Bangladesh. And this will be few days different than the conventional Bangla calendar practiced in West Bengal.
